WTC points table after India's win

The WTC points table after India’s win at The Oval has changed in a big way. India defeated England in a nail-biting match and moved to third place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings. The win was special, not just because of the result, but also because of how it happened.

India won the fifth Test by just 6 runs. It was a close match, but India held their nerve. With this victory, the five-match series wrapped up in a 2-2 draw. Though the series was drawn, India gained crucial points in the WTC table. As a result, they moved up from fifth to third place.

After this victory, India has 28 points from 5 matches. Their points percentage (PCT) is 46.67%. On the other hand, England also has 2 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw. But they were penalized 2 points for a slow over rate in the second Test. That pushed their total down to 26 points and a PCT of 43.33%, dropping them to fourth place.

At the top of the table is Australia. They’ve played 3 matches and won all three. Their PCT is 100%. Sri Lanka is currently sitting in second place with 16 points from 2 matches, boasting a PCT of 66.67%.

The Oval Test was full of drama. England needed 374 runs to win. On Day 5, they were very close. India’s bowlers rose to the occasion when it counted the most. Mohammed Siraj claimed an impressive 5 wickets, while Prasidh Krishna added 4 to his tally. In the end, England was bowled out for 367, falling just 6 runs short.

The moment was even more intense because Chris Woakes, who had a shoulder injury, came out to bat with one hand. But India stayed calm. Their bowlers finished the job and gave India a famous win.

This victory has boosted India’s chances in the WTC race. Earlier in the series, they lost two matches. But they made a strong comeback to level the series. Now, they are in a much better position in the table.

India still has a lot of matches to play. But this win gives them confidence. If they continue to perform well, they can reach the WTC final again, just like in 2021 and 2023. England, however, is likely feeling quite let down. They had a prime opportunity to clinch the series and just couldn’t make it happen. Plus, the points penalty has made things worse for them in the standings.
