WI vs AUS 2nd Test Day 1 review

The WI vs AUS 2nd Test Day 1 review and highlights delivered exciting performances as West Indies bowlers dominated Australia’s top-order at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada. Australia lost quick wickets early, but strong lower-order partnerships helped them reach 286 runs before getting bowled out. Alzarri Joseph led the West Indies attack with an impressive four-wicket haul, keeping the hosts well in the game.

Australia, holding a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, won the toss and chose to bat first. Openers Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja provided a strong start, adding 47 runs in 11 overs. However, the West Indies bowlers quickly turned the tide. They took down both openers along with star batter Steve Smith, leaving Australia struggling at 50/3.

Travis Head and Cameron Green worked hard to stabilize the innings. They played some aggressive shots, quickly adding 43 runs to the scoreboard. However, right before Lunch, Cameron Green got out after scoring 26 runs from 37 balls. Even though Australia scored over four runs per over, they lost four wickets in the first session.

After lunch, the West Indies made their mark once more. Shamar Joseph delivered a fantastic ball that had Head edging it away. Shai Hope pulled off an incredible one-handed catch, sending Head back to the pavilion for 29 runs. This wicket gave West Indies the momentum.

Australia found a glimmer of hope thanks to Beau Webster and Alex Carey, who teamed up for a crucial 112-run partnership. Carey played aggressively, racking up 63 runs off 81 balls, which included ten boundaries and a six. Meanwhile, Webster held his ground with a solid contribution of 60 runs from 115 deliveries.

However, after Justin Greaves dismissed Carey, Australia’s lower order pushed to add quick runs, with Pat Cummins contributing a useful 17 runs off just 20 balls. Ultimately, the last-wicket duo of Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood added 19 valuable runs before Australia was all out for 286 in 66.5 overs.

Alzarri Joseph was the star of the day for the West Indies. He bowled with impressive speed and precision, taking 4 wickets for 61 runs. Shamar Joseph also played a vital role, making some crucial breakthroughs.

West Indies openers came to the crease, but bad light stopped play before they could face many deliveries. The match remains evenly balanced as both teams look ahead to Day 2.
