Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar recently shared his thoughts on the leadership situation at Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He raised concerns about how MS Dhoni’s presence might be affecting the rise of young leaders like Ruturaj Gaikwad. This sparked a lively discussion among fans and experts about CSK’s future direction. During a Star Sports show, Sanjay Bangar on MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad pointed out a clear leadership issue.

He claims, “Ruturaj & Jadeja remain under Dhoni’s shadow, never truly taking their leap. Always mirroring MS’s mindset, they miss the chance to evolve, but Dhoni’s presence keeps it locked, stalling the rise of new leaders.”

Bangar explained, “They are still under Dhoni’s influence. Until Dhoni moves aside, it will be hard for them to become true leaders.” This is a common problem when legendary players continue playing late into their careers.

CSK had a rough 2025 IPL season. They finished last, winning only four out of 14 games. Ruturaj Gaikwad started the season as captain but missed several matches due to injury. As a result, Dhoni took over the captaincy again.

Bangar feels that CSK must now enter a new phase. Many agree that the franchise needs to plan beyond Dhoni, who is now in his 40s. While Dhoni’s legacy is immense, it might be time for him to hand over leadership to the younger players.

Others share similar views. For example, former cricketer Joginder Sharma suggested Dhoni should “rest” and let new leaders take charge. They believe that unless Dhoni steps down, players like Gaikwad may not get enough space to grow.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of CSK’s brightest young stars. He has shown consistent skill with the bat. Moreover, many believe he has the calmness and talent to be a good leader. However, Sanjay Bangar, talking about MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad, stressed that Dhoni’s continued leadership might unintentionally block Gaikwad’s growth as a captain. While Dhoni remains an excellent mentor, young players need to develop their own identities.

CSK’s management faces tough decisions. Whether Dhoni retires or steps back, the team needs a clear plan for leadership transition. Moving on from a legend like Dhoni is never easy. Yet, to ensure future success, the franchise must empower young players. Giving them leadership opportunities will help CSK grow stronger in the post-Dhoni era.

The views of Sanjay Bangar on MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad emphasize an important point. While Dhoni’s experience is valuable, CSK must also look forward. Ruturaj and others need space to shine as future leaders. If CSK manages this transition well, it could set the foundation for many more successful seasons.
