Najmul Captain for the Sri Lanka Test

This series kick-starts Bangladesh’s journey in the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The team aims to make a strong impression as it begins this exciting new chapter.

Najmul took over Test captaincy in 2024, and with his leadership extended, the BCB continues to back him. Mehidy Hasan Miraz retains his role as vice-captain, strengthening the leadership unit alongside Shanto. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated, “Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue as Bangladesh’s Test captain for another year, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz remaining as vice-captain.”

Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das returns after missing the last series due to injury. He’s fit again and ready to rejoin the squad. Fast bowler Ebadot Hossain also comes back after being sidelined since July 2023. The selectors have recalled spinner Hasan Murad and pacer Nahid Rana, while dropping Tanvir Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mahmudul Hasan Joy from the Zimbabwe series squad.

Further, Bangladesh will travel to Sri Lanka on June 13. The first Test begins on June 17 in Galle, and the second Test follows on June 25 in Colombo. The team wants to launch its WTC campaign with confidence and strong performances.

Moreover, the return of seasoned players like Litton and Ebadot adds depth and power to the squad. With a reliable leadership group in place, Bangladesh looks to deliver a solid showing in challenging away conditions.

The Sri Lanka series could shape Bangladesh’s entire Test season. It gives the team a vital chance to prove its strength. Strong performances now could build momentum for future matches. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s leadership will be central to their success.
