To begin with, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. Although opener Pathum Nissanka started well and scored 46 off 39 balls, the rest of the batting lineup didn’t perform. For instance, Kusal Mendis made only 6 runs, while Dinesh Chandimal got 4 runs, and Kusal Perera got out quickly.

Moreover, the middle order failed to build partnerships. Only Dasun Shanaka added some runs at the end with a steady 35 not out, but Sri Lanka still finished at 132 for 7 in 20 overs, a below-par total on a good pitch.

Meanwhile, Mahedi Hasan came into the attack and changed the game. He bowled with great control and confidence. In just 4 overs, he gave away only 11 runs, took 4 key wickets, and even bowled a maiden over. He took out key players like Perera, Chandimal, Asalanka, and Nissanka.

As a result, Mahedi dismantled the Sri Lankan innings. His performance was not just match-winning but also historic, as he broke Harbhajan Singh’s T20I record at this venue. His spell was the best by a spinner in this stadium in a recent match.

In addition to Mahedi’s brilliance, the other bowlers also stepped up. Mustafizur Rahman bowled tightly and took 1 wicket for 17 runs in 4 overs. Shamim Hossain picked up 1 wicket and gave away just 10 runs in 2 overs.

Chasing 133, Bangladesh started steadily. Litton Das gave the team a solid start with 32 runs off 26 balls. After his dismissal, Tanzid Hasan Tamim took charge. He batted beautifully, scoring an unbeaten 73 off 47 balls, and played smart cricket throughout the chase.

In addition, Towhid Hridoy played a calm innings of 27 not out, ensuring there were no hiccups. Bangladesh reached the target in 16.3 overs, winning by 8 wickets in a comfortable fashion.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s bowlers had no answers. Only Nuwan Thushara and Kamindu Mendis managed to take one wicket each. However, the rest of the bowlers failed to keep things tight. They gave away too many easy runs and couldn’t build any pressure.

Despite having the home advantage, Sri Lanka failed to make the most of it in this final game. Their performance with both bat and ball lacked intensity. Overall, this was a special win for Bangladesh. It was their very first T20I series victory in Sri Lanka, and they pulled it off with a lot of confidence. The team played as a unit and showed great character.

Most importantly, Mahedi Hasan took 4 wickets in the 3rd T20I, which proved to be the turning point of the match. His outstanding performance reminded fans that individual brilliance can make all the difference, even in high-pressure situations. This victory will surely boost Bangladesh’s confidence as they prepare for future challenges like the T20 World Cup.
