In IPL 2025, a major off-field controversy has come to light about Preity Zinta’s legal action against the PBKS co-owners Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia. The dispute centers on an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on April 21, 2025. Zinta claims the meeting violated corporate laws under the Companies Act, 2013.

Preity Zinta's legal action against the PBKS co-owners

Preity Zinta, Burman, and Wadia are directors of KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited. This company owns the Punjab Kings franchise. On April 10, 2025, she sent an email to raise concerns. She pointed out irregularities in the EGM notice and procedure. Despite her objection, the meeting went ahead.

During the EGM, the board appointed Muneesh Khanna as a new director. Preity Zinta and fellow director Karan Paul opposed the decision. Preity Zinta argued that the meeting ignored proper procedures. She says the board failed to follow legal and secretarial standards, also noting that the absence of a chairperson caused a deadlock.

She responded by filing a court petition in Chandigarh, asking the court to annul the EGM and cancel all its decisions, and wants to block Muneesh Khanna from serving as a director. Furthermore, she asked the court to stop the company from acting on decisions from the disputed meeting.

Preity Zinta’s petition also seeks a court order. She wants to ensure no board or general meeting occurs without her and Karan Paul. Until the dispute is resolved, she believes their presence is critical. This legal move reveals deeper tensions within the Punjab Kings’ ownership.

Despite these legal troubles, Zinta supports her team at IPL matches. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings, under captain Shreyas Iyer, are doing well on the field. They have qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

So far, the team has earned 17 points from 12 matches. They currently sit third on the points table and aim for a top-two finish. Their strong performance contrasts with the off-field drama. It shows how running an IPL team involves more than just cricket.

Looking ahead, the court’s verdict could change the team’s leadership dynamics. Fans and stakeholders now wait to see how this battle will shape the future of the Punjab Kings.
