PCB and CWI fight

The PCB and CWI fight over the upcoming Pakistan vs West Indies white-ball series has turned serious. What was supposed to be a routine series announcement has now become a major dispute. Both boards are pulling in different directions and can’t agree on the format of the series.

This series is not just about playing matches. It carries big importance for both teams. Pakistan will host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, so they want to prepare well in advance. On the other hand, the West Indies are focusing on improving their ODI rankings.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to play at least five T20Is in this series. They believe T20 matches will help their players gain momentum before the Champions Trophy. T20s also attract more fans and generate better revenue. So, PCB feels these extra matches will benefit them both on and off the field.

But the Cricket West Indies (CWI) doesn’t agree. They want to stick to the original plan of playing three ODIs. According to them, these ODIs are already part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP), and they can’t make changes now. Also, CWI sees ODIs as more helpful for rebuilding their team and improving their international standing.

So far, both boards have spoken several times, but they haven’t reached an agreement. Reports say the PCB feels disappointed because they have adjusted their schedules for CWI in the past. Meanwhile, CWI believes PCB is trying to change the plan without proper discussion. As a result, both sides are now frustrated.

Both boards have valid points. PCB wants to prepare for a major ICC event, and that’s fair. CWI needs ODI points to climb the rankings, which is also reasonable. But since neither side is ready to compromise, the future of the series looks uncertain.

If they don’t settle this soon, the series could get shortened or worse, it might get canceled. That would hurt both teams, especially the players who are working hard to secure their places in the squad.

Officials from both boards will meet again soon. They might try to find a solution that works for both. One possible idea is to play two ODIs and three T20Is instead of sticking to one format. They could also consider moving the series to new dates, but the packed international calendar poses a challenge.

The PCB and CWI fight over this white-ball series shows how hard it is to balance team needs, schedules, and international events. We hope both boards find a middle ground so the players can get on the field and the fans can enjoy the game. After all, cricket should bring nations together, not pull them apart.
