Owen and Gous led Washington Freedom

Owen and Gous led Washington Freedom to their fourth consecutive win in MLC 2025, chasing down Texas Super Kings’ imposing 220-run total with just two balls to spare. Their dominant batting display not only sealed a thrilling victory but also lifted Washington Freedom to second place on the points table.

From the very beginning, Washington Freedom came out swinging. Mitch Owen and Rachin Ravindra kicked off the innings with a clear purpose, hitting five boundaries in just the first eight balls. Even though Texas dismissed Ravindra during the powerplay. Owen kept the energy alive. Texas dropped him on 20, giving him a second chance, and he made them regret that mistake.

By the end of the eighth over, Freedom had slowed down. They managed only 72 runs and needed a spark. Texas dropped Owen again on 42 in a crucial moment, and that mistake gave Freedom exactly the chance they needed. Marcus Stoinis bowled a no-ball, and Owen took full advantage. He unleashed his power with back-to-back sixes, shifting the pressure straight back onto the Super Kings.

Moreover, the turning point came in the 12th over. Freedom smashed Noor Ahmad for 22 runs, and Andries Gous followed with a brutal 24-run assault on Donovan Ferreira in the next. Though Stoinis returned with a tight over and dismissed Owen for a match-defining 89, Freedom had already inflicted the damage.

Gous and Glenn Maxwell then took control. They struck key boundaries in the final overs to bring the target within reach. Despite Stoinis mixing yorkers and full tosses in the last over, Glenn Phillips sealed the match in style. He cracked a boundary through a backward point with just two balls left. Gous remained unbeaten on 80, achieving his highest MLC score.

Earlier, Faf du Plessis gave the Texas Super Kings a blazing start. He scored 69 off 31 balls and, with support from Smit Patel, helped TSK reach 220/6. However, Maxwell’s tight spell and Owen’s three wickets disrupted their rhythm. Calvin Savage and Shubham Ranjane added a quick 36 off 14 to lift TSK at the death.

In conclusion, Owen and Gous once again led Washington Freedom with outstanding performances, showcasing their dominance in the MLC 2025 season. Their form has pushed Freedom into strong contention as the tournament heats up. More fireworks from this duo are likely in the matches ahead.
