Mitchell Owen is the latest Australian talent to shine on the IPL stage. The young all-rounder joined Punjab Kings (PBKS) as a mid-season replacement. He made his debut in IPL 2025 and immediately caught the attention of fans and experts. With his powerful hitting and handy medium pace, Owen adds depth to the PBKS lineup.

Born on September 16, 2001, in Hobart, Tasmania, Owen built his cricket foundation in Australia’s domestic circuit. He bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. Over the years, he has become known for his aggressive lower-order batting. He started his professional journey with Tasmania and later joined the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL).
As his career progressed, Owen proved himself in all formats. In First-Class cricket, he displayed patience and consistency. In List A games, he showed the ability to accelerate and contribute with the ball. However, his performances in T20s truly stand out. His aggressive style and calm under pressure make him a valuable T20 asset.
Because of his impressive BBL run, Owen earned chances in other franchise leagues. He gained international experience by playing in the SA20 League and the Pakistan Super League (PSL). There, he represented Peshawar Zalmi. His power hitting during pressure situations grabbed the attention of fans and scouts alike.

One standout moment came in the BBL 2024–25 final. Owen played a heroic knock of an unbeaten 108 off just 42 balls. His explosive innings led the Hobart Hurricanes to their first-ever BBL title. He smashed sixes and boundaries with ease. As a result, his reputation as a match-winner skyrocketed.
In IPL 2025, Punjab Kings picked Owen to replace the injured Glenn Maxwell. Recognizing his recent form and rising potential, the team saw him as a perfect fit. Consequently, he made his debut against the Rajasthan Royals, stepping onto one of the biggest stages in T20 cricket.
Although his first IPL outing ended with a duck, his presence still adds strength to the squad. He is a hard-hitting all-rounder who can change games with either bat or ball. With more opportunities, Owen could become a key player for PBKS.
Looking ahead, cricket fans will keep a close eye on his journey. If Owen delivers on his promise, he may soon be a regular in top global T20 leagues. Eventually, he could even knock on the doors of Australia’s national team.
